Mission Statement
The Fine and Visual Arts Department recognizes that the arts are an essential part of a student's education. Our mission is to prepare our students for further learning, occupational opportunities, social responsibilities, and commitment to community.
All students are encouraged to enroll in Visual Arts electives to broaden their range of experiences. This course of study is highly recommended for the college bound student who will benefit through experiences, which which provide the background for lifelong cultural enrichment.
Learning Outcomes aligned with the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks:
1. 1.10 Be able to use electronic technology for reference and for creating original work.
2. Be able to demonstrate a mastery of tools and techniques in one medium
3. Be able to create artwork that demonstrates a purposeful use of the elements and principles of design to convey meaning and emotion.
4. Be able to create artwork that demonstrates facility in selective use of elements and principles of design to establish a personal style.
5. Be able to create 2D artwork that explores the abstraction of ideas and representations.
6. Be able to create 2D images that are original, convey a distinct point of view, and communicate ideas.
7. Be able to evaluate the effectiveness of the use of a particular technology to achieve an artistic effect.
